IoMP 144: We Saw Amonklok Conquest at the Great Canadian Casino in Toronto
There are concerts… and then there are events that feel like somebody opened a portal directly into the most metal dimension imaginable.
In this episode of the Influencers of Metal Podcast, Collin and Tom recap their experience attending the Amonklok Conquest Tour in Toronto featuring co-headliners Dethklok and Amon Amarth, with support from the unbelievably entertaining Castle Rat.
Before the music even started, the guys found themselves battling the true final boss of modern venues: the cashless system. While the Great Canadian Casino Resort impressed with its spacious setup, solid views, and overall comfort, the sudden realization that cash meant absolutely nothing inside the venue caused immediate psychic damage. Add in merch prices that looked like they were generated by a fantasy RPG inflation simulator, and the night already had plenty to talk about before a single riff was played.
Then Castle Rat hit the stage.
What followed wasn’t just a doom metal set — it was a full theatrical performance complete with storytelling, costumes, stage characters, and a sense of immersion that completely blindsided both hosts. The band delivered crushing riffs while feeling like a live fantasy production unfolding in real time. Our favourite duo both agree: if you ever get the chance to see Castle Rat live, do it immediately.
Amon Amarth then stormed the stage like Viking warlords arriving to claim Toronto for Odin himself. Massive props, incredible stage presence, booming sound, and nonstop crowd interaction turned the venue into a full-on Norse battlefield. The band once again proved why they remain one of the most dependable live acts in metal today.
Closing out the night was Dethklok, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Metalocalypse in spectacular fashion. The set balanced absurd comedy and genuine heaviness perfectly, creating a performance that satisfied longtime fans while still functioning as a killer melodic death metal show in its own right. Nostalgia, brutality, and giant animated chaos collided beautifully.
This episode captures the excitement, hilarity, sticker shock, and unforgettable moments of one of the most entertaining tours of the year.
