IoMP 185: Collin Saw Sabaton at the Great Canadian Casino Resort in Toronto
Collin & Tom

Sabaton have rolled their war machine back into Toronto — and this time they brought a tank, plenty of fire, and one hell of a story for the Influencers of Metal Podcast.

Collin was in attendance for the Toronto stop of Sabaton’s Legends Tour alongside Wings of Steel and Pop Evil. Tom, meanwhile, was supposed to be there before life decided otherwise, meaning Collin has the unenviable task of explaining exactly what he missed.

And apparently, he missed quite a bit.

Before anyone can even get inside the Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, there’s already chaos thanks to an ongoing strike creating unexpected parking problems. Once inside, however, things start looking considerably better — especially after discovering that Sabaton and Asian food make a surprisingly excellent combination.

Then there’s the merch table. Sabaton certainly gave fans plenty to choose from, but some of those prices leave our duo asking the important question: what exactly are they putting inside a $140 zip-up hoodie?!

Eventually, though, it’s time for what everyone actually came for: the music.

Collin breaks down what he caught of Wings of Steel, gives his thoughts on Pop Evil’s performance, and then dives headfirst into Sabaton’s massive headlining set. With a stage full of military hardware, plenty of crowd interaction, songs spanning the band’s catalogue and considerably more fire than Collin expected to see inside a casino, Sabaton certainly know how to make an entrance.

There’s also another important question to answer: was bringing a friend to see Sabaton a successful introduction to metal?

From parking headaches and expensive merch to surprise pyro, questionable opening acts and 18 songs of Swedish power metal, there’s plenty to unpack.

Click play and join Collin and Tom for another Influencers of Metal Podcast concert review as they decide whether Sabaton conquered Toronto — or whether the night went down in flames.
