Tom McKay is the host/creator of Metal Robot Reviews. Born in Ontario, Canada in 1997, he spent his early life being brought up on music that his dad listened to, predominately The Beach Boys and Bon Jovi. After his dad remarried, Tom’s step-mom began exposing him to 80s metal, from Skid Row to Metallica. And from there, it was set. While he grew up with these influences, it wasn’t until 2010/2011 where he discovered Three Days Grace that opened up the doors to heavier rock music. Then after the discovery of bands like Avenged Sevenfold, it was open season on one of the biggest, heaviest, and most devoted music communities on the planet.
By 2014, he had become obsessed with the world of heavy metal, even expanding his horizons further into death metal, black metal, and so many more. Mid-2016 rolled around, and Tom had been watching a lot of review based YouTube content, from The Rock Critic (now Crash Thompson), Rocked Reviews (now Rocked), and the Nostalgia Critic (now dead to me). Around this time, Tom’s love of music was growing, whilst also becoming unsatisfied with creating Let’s Play videos on his channel LBP 101. Thus, he decided to head down a different path, and Metal Robot Reviews was born!
Years after creation, Tom has branched out even further with Metal Robot AND beyond! After attending Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario studying Radio Broadcasting, he began his career in radio that further fed his creative edge and workaholic work ethic. This, on top of his other pursuits. Having released a solo EP Call to the Daemon Sultan, offering commissions for his radio voice and his skills in podcast production, and launching a podcast of his own, Tom shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
