DISCONNECTED SOULS Release Trailer for "Petrichor"
DISCONNECTED SOULS have released a trailer for their upcoming single "Petrichor". The song is set to be released on November 12 2021. Inspired by the natural phenomenon of petrichor – a distinctive earthy scent often experienced after a heavy storm, the combination of metal and classical instrumentation delivers a haunting portrayal of nature at work.
The band comments: “The new single is incredibly experimental; we’re continuously looking for new ways to compose tracks and create something unique. Holly has been wanting to compose a track around the theme of petrichor for a while and lockdown provided the opportunity to do so. It’s organized chaos, the structure is inspired by various classical styles just taken much further!”
Thrown into the midst of the storm, the track opens with thundering guitars and epic synthesizers. The atmosphere in this first section is electric with a few eerie vocal harmonies thrown in. The following movement takes a predominantly orchestral turn with numerous folk instruments also woven into the mix. The contrapuntal melodies recreate the randomness of nature, of falling rain and the petrichor that emerges from the chemical reactions that take place.
This is an unusual piece that intentionally diverges from the previous tracks DISCONNECTED SOULS have produced. “Petrichor” is a fantastical experiment which establishes the genre mixing and creative composition that is to come in their next chapter.
