IoMP 77: What Have You Been Listening To? - August 2025
The dog days of summer call for one thing: blasting metal until the neighbors either join you or call the cops. In the August edition of What Have You Been Listening To?, Collin and Tom unload their latest playlist chaos, and it’s a wild ride through the entire metal spectrum.
We kick things off with the raw ferocity of Blackbraid’s Blackbraid III — a pagan black metal journey that feels like being dropped in the middle of a ritual bonfire. From there, the surprises don’t stop: Collin pulls out a shocker of an honorable mention, Tom dives headfirst into Canada’s underground scene with Primalfrost, Crimson Shadows, and Centuries of Decay, and both hosts try not to get whiplash when the vibe suddenly shifts into 80s-style power ballads.
But of course, it wouldn’t be a proper WHYBLT without some heavy hitters. Avenged Sevenfold’s City of Evil brings back mid-2000s nostalgia, Ozzy’s No More Tears reminds us why the Prince of Darkness can still croon with the best of them, and SpiritWorld’s Helldorado rides in guns blazing with their unique “death western” style. Rounding it out is Lord of the Lost with their cinematic, goth-tinged OPVS NOIR Vol. 1, just in case you thought this episode wasn’t already eclectic enough.
It’s a mix of underground discoveries, classic legends, and pure curveballs — but that’s the beauty of What Have You Been Listening To? You’ll walk away with new bands to check out, old favorites to revisit, and a couple of laughs at our expense.
So grab your headphones, queue it up, and let us soundtrack the rest of your August with the heaviest (and occasionally cheesiest) tracks we could find.
