IoMP 128: What Is System of a Down's Heaviest Song?
For years, fans have debated which songs by System of a Down are truly the heaviest.
Is it the chaotic energy of their self-titled debut? The explosive songwriting of Toxicity? Or the strange experimental moments scattered across their later records?
On this episode of the Influencers of Metal Podcast, Collin and Tom attempt to answer that question once and for all.
The mission started with 37 songs pulled from across the band’s discography. From there, the list was trimmed down to 21 tracks… then 15… then finally a top 10 ranking of what might be the heaviest songs SOAD ever recorded.
What the guys discovered during the process was fascinating.
Despite their reputation for unpredictable songwriting and genre-bending experimentation, System of a Down consistently delivers moments of crushing heaviness. Whether it’s the raw punk aggression of System of a Down, the razor-sharp riffs on Toxicity, or the chaotic humor of Steal This Album!, the band has always balanced brutality with absurdity.
Agree with the list?
Or did they completely miss your favorite?
