IoMP 182: Our HammerFall & Sabaton Concert Song Wishlists
The armies are gathering. The hammers are raised. Collin and Tom’s bank accounts are begging for mercy.
It’s a huge week for the Influencers of Metal Podcast as the guys prepare to see not one, but TWO Swedish power metal heavyweights: HammerFall and Sabaton!
First up is HammerFall, a band Collin has been waiting years to see as a headliner after previously catching them opening for — fittingly enough — Sabaton. With Evergrey joining them, it’s time to dig through HammerFall’s massive catalogue and choose the songs Collin and Tom desperately want to hear live.
Collin reaches back to some personal favourites with “The Templar Flame” and “Riders of the Storm,” while Tom — admittedly nowhere near the HammerFall fanatic his co-host is — searches through the catalogue for “Hammer High” and the deeper cut “No Son of Odin.”
But one Swedish power metal invasion apparently isn’t enough.
Just days later, Collin and Tom turn their attention to Sabaton. With a catalogue packed with concert staples, the challenge becomes finding the songs they want to hear beyond the obvious choices. Collin marches into battle with “Night Witches” before throwing a curveball with Sabaton’s cover of the Judas Priest classic “All Guns Blazing.” Tom goes back to the heavier side of Sabaton with “Coat of Arms” before digging even deeper for the World War I-era track “Father.”
That gives us eight songs, two concerts and absolutely no guarantee that ANY of these wishlist picks will actually survive the setlist gods.
Along the way, things naturally go wildly off course. Apple Music catches strays, Collin and Tom confront the horrifying realization that Cars is now 20 years old, Motionless in White covers are put on trial, grocery delivery somehow becomes a societal debate, and the podcast discovers entirely too many uses for a “wackus bonkus.”
So, which HammerFall and Sabaton songs do Collin and Tom want to hear live? Which picks actually have a chance of making the setlists? And just how deep into Sabaton lore are they willing to go?
