The Maggots In WACKEN 2020!
Slipknot have done a lot of awesome things in their 20 plus year tenure as metal icons. One thing they haven’t done is perform at one of the biggest metal music festivals ever made… Wacken Open Air. On their website they confirmed this booking in a new press release on Friday: “We are proud to finally welcome this so important band to Wacken and to fulfill one of the biggest wishes of our fans since many years.”
Slipknot formed back in 1995, and since then they’ve become staples of the metalhead’s bucket list, right next to a Slayer mosh pit, and getting your skull taken apart and shared amongst the Trv Kvlt… okay maybe not that last one. But even though they’re a huge act in the metal world, they haven’t in 25 years played at the biggest metal festival on the planet. Many metal bands consider this a right of passage. Many bands of done it before, some of them haven’t even been around as long.
Tickets for Wacken 2020 have sold out as of recent, and I’d like to publicly say that I’m jelous as hell of the lucky bastards who got tickets given the bands lined up. Along with Slipknot, the festival will be greeted by bands like “Overkill”, “While She Sleeps”, “Annihilator”, “Judas ‘Mother-Humping’ Priest”, “Venom”, and so much more.
Back in August, Slipknot released their 6th studio album We Are Not Your Kind, becoming one of the biggest metal releases of the year (not counting our lord and saviour Tool), which Wacken seems to have praised as well: “With songs like Nero Forte the band links to their classic hits like Psychosocial, while the experimental Spiders opens up new musical territory…“
