BONUS: Lindsay Schoolcraft on Travis Scott/Astroworld Disaster
The podcast episode features a conversation between me and Lindsay Schoolcraft discussing the unavoidable events at the Astroworld Festival where eight people died and hundreds were injured. Lindsay, who has experience performing in various musical projects, including Cradle of Filth, talks about her experiences at large shows and contrasts them with the disastrous events at Astroworld.
In the full episode we showed how important it is for the performer to take responsibility and how powerful of an influence they have on the crowd. In the full interview, we discuss further the responsibility of performers and organizers to ensure the safety of concertgoers, citing instances from their own experiences where shows were stopped due to technical issues or inclement weather. Lindsay emphasizes the importance of caring for fans' well-being and outlines the rules of behavior in metal concert pits, where attendees look out for each other.
The conversation touches on the actions of Travis Scott, the performer and face of Astroworld, who faced criticism for not halting the show promptly despite signs of danger in the crowd. They discuss the potential legal repercussions and the need for accountability in such situations.
Despite the heavy topic, we conclude on a lighter note, acknowledging the emotional toll of the discussion and sharing a moment of levity by watching a video of a tiny hamster eating tiny burritos. We truly needed that.
